From the VA ABC:  “A wonderful award-winning Island malt, bottled at above-average strength with a comforting smooth afterglow. This scotch opens with a peat-smoke aroma with seawater saltiness, the liquor of fresh oysters, a citrus sweetness. It boasts a rich dried-fruit sweetness with clouds of smoke and strong barley-malt flavors, warming and intense. At the back of the mouth is an explosion of pepper and kippers. Huge, long, volcanic finish with an appetizing sweetness.”  The malt is peated to a phenol level of approximately 18–22 parts per million (ppm), which is a medium peating level.  The Connemara that we covered recently is at 15 ppm.  So Talisker is relatively lightly peated.

A scotch with a huge following, Taliisker is often at the top of many ‘favorite scotch’ lists.  This is a great cigar whisky.  I only smoke a cigar a few times a year so I don’t have any background on what goes best with a whiskey like Talisker.

I have never been to an unhelpful cigar shop.  Every store I’ve visited has had a friendly staff and clientele.  A town with a professional tobacconist is fortunate indeed.  The Burke Cigar Lounge is my local shop and I recommend them.  I’ll tell them the scotch I’ve got, the price range, and size of cigar I want and leave it up to their expertise. I’ve never been disappointed.  Sitting on the deck on a pleasant summer evening with a cigar and dram of Talisker is uniquely enjoyable.  Talisker isn’t for beginners, but once you’ve got a handle on scotch, you will fully appreciate the hard work and talent that goes into every bottle.  Kia ora!
