Bruichladdich’s Classic Laddie is an unusual introduction to an Islay Single Malt Whisky Distillery. One of the few 100% unpeated Single Malts from the remote Scottish island of Islay. Distilled from 100% Scottish grown barley, each bottling of Classic Laddie is crafted in multi-vintage batches of different American and French oak cask types.
Yeah, it’s hard to believe, but this scotch is pronounced BROOK-laddihhh. Welcome to scotch. Sharing the stable with Port Charlotte Heavily peated single malt, and Octomore Super-heavily peated Islay single malt, the Classic Laddie is unpeated. According to their website, ‘The Classic Laddie is made from 100% Scottish barley, trickle distilled, non-chill filtered and colouring(sic) free.’ It’s one hundred percent delicious. The Islay scotches are known for being heavily peated giving them that earthy smell and taste. That tends to be true, but The Laddie is one of those exceptions. It’s a nice entry into single malts from any scotch region. It’s reasonably priced for a single malt. I recommend it.
